One of my daughters doesn't love a "day off" of school. Today we had a day off for teachers' conferences and I could sense a storm brewing. She worries that she will be bored, get stuck doing dull things or even worse... helping out with chores around the house! The morning starts out with a thin vein of tension... slow to get out of bed, arguments over little things, grumpy attitude. I had a flash of inspiration... a plan!
I'm a person who loves to plan! I keep lists and calendars and it makes me feel better, more organized and at peace. Today I made a simple list for my daughter. The few "asks" or things that aren't necessarily fun but still need to get done on one side of the list, and some fun options for the day on the other. It totally changed the tide of the day! She did her few tasks and was ready for fun! It's a win win.
