Not every connection-building activity needs a plan, a budget, or even leaving the house. Sometimes the most effective tools are the silliest ones.
This is the second post in our summer series on simple, low-cost ways to connect with your kids. Last week we covered playing catch. This week we're heading indoors for something a little more chaotic — and a lot more fun. It's called Pillow Launch. How to Play Pillow Launch The setup takes less than a minute: Step 1: Your child lies on their back on the floor, feet pointed up toward the ceiling. Step 2: You balance a pillow on top of their feet. Step 3: Back up a few steps, getting your arms ready to catch. Step 4: Count down together out loud — 5...4...3...2...1...LAUNCH! Step 5: Your child pushes the pillow off their feet, launching it toward your waiting arms. Step 6: Take turns. Once the basic version feels easy, try stacking two pillows for an extra challenge. That's the entire game. A couch pillow or two. A clear few feet of floor space. A few minutes of time.

Somewhere between camps, activities, and the constant hum of a busy summer schedule, one of the simplest and most powerful connection tools available to parents quietly gets left behind.
Playing catch. No equipment to buy. No prep required. No screens involved. Just a ball, a few minutes, and two people standing across from each other. This post kicks off a short summer series on simple, low-cost ways to build connection with your kids — small moments that matter far more than we tend to realize. We've spent six weeks exploring the parenting philosophy behind one of the happiest countries in the world — and we're ending with the concept that ties it all together.
This is Week 6 of our summer series inspired by The Danish Way of Parenting by Jessica Joelle Alexander and Iben Dissing Sandahl. And this week's topic is my favorite of the entire series. Hygge. |
